MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORS

We would like to invite you to participate actively at the 4th World Congress of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in Hyderabad, India, from the 1st - 3rd of December, 2017.


We have some exciting news to share; On November 11th 2017, WSPOS gained its 2000th member. We now have 2,033 members.

 
We have also launched an App for our 4th World Congress of Padiatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. The app is titled WCPOS IV & can be used to access ALL our WCPOS IV related information.


This newsletter includes the 9th Case of our Global Case Report Quiz in addition to information on our Past & Upcoming meetings.


Further information on these meetings and our activities are available on our website www.wspos.org. We will also be providing regular updates in future newsletters. As you can see from this newsletter, these are exciting times for WSPOS. If you have any news that you would like included in our next newsletter, please contact us.

GLOBAL CASE REPORT QUIZ

Dr. Susana Zabalo de Jerabek from Córdoba, Argentina has sent us the ninth case presentation. This is the 4th in a series of Revista de Estrabismo & Oftalmologia Pediátrica (REOP i.e. the Journal of Strabismus & Paediatric Ophthalmology coordinated by the prestigious Prieto-Diaz Institute of Strabismus in Argentina) & WSPOS collaboration cases. This is a case about a 24-year-old male patient with a history of trauma, ptisis bulbis, strabismus, leucoma, band keratopathy in a red and painful eye.

PAST WSPOS MEETINGS

WSPOS Paediatric Sub-Specialty Day, Lisbon

 

Our 4th WSPOS Paediatric Sub-Specialty Day took place on 6th October, 2017 & preceded the XXXV Congress of the ESCRS at Lisbon, Portugal. Our extremely successful Sub-specialty day meeting, co-ordinated by Drs. David Granet (USA), Dominique Brémond-Gignac (FRANCE), Eduardo Silva (PORTUGAL) & Richard Hertle (USA) had didactic sessions on Anterior Segment & Infectious Diseases, Orbits & Lids, Genetics, Paediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology, Amblyopia / Strabismus in addition to a Case Presentation Forum. We upheld our mission statement “Expertise Resides All Over the World” & had speakers from Australia, France, India, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey & the USA.

APSPOS Inaugural Meeting, Hong Kong

 

In addition to our Sub-specialty day at Lisbon, WSPOS was invited to conduct a 2-hour symposium at the Inaugural Meeting of the Asia- Pacific Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Society (APSPOS) on the 12th of October, 2017 at Hong Kong. Our symposium was titled ‘Progress through Non-Consensus in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabisimus’.

Dinner symposium

 

WSPOS also conducted a very successful dinner symposium that was made possible by an education grant by Zeiss, on the 11th of November, 2017 at New Orleans, USA. Our symposium was titled ‘Integrated Intraoperative OCT in Paediatric Ocular Surgery’. We had distinguished speakers of repute speaking on a variety of Intraoperative OCT related topics at the same.

WCPOS IV, DECEMBER 1st – 3rd, 2017, HYDERABAD, INDIA

We are almost at the finish line in terms of preparations for our 4th World Congress of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WCPOS IV) and have stopped accepting online Registrations for the same. Anyone who wishes to register may do so at the Registration desk present at the Conference Venue.

We have also launched an app for the conference. The app titled WCPOS IV, is available on the Google play store (for Android devices) & the iOS app store (for Apple devices).


Users can access all the WCPOS IV details; view the Scientific Program, Speaker & Exhibitor information & can also Register for the WCPOS IV & / or Book their accommodation. Visa information & Conference invitation letters can also be downloaded from the app if required. Users can even book Local Half & / Full day sight-seeing trips in addition to Pre & Post conference tours here. Click here to download the WCPOS IV app.

 

We have an Adult-Paediatric Interface day & are offering a ‘SINGLE DAY REGISTRATION’ for SATURDAY, 2nd December, 2017. WSPOS believes Adult Ophthalmologists do as much for children in India as Paediatric Ophthalmologists anywhere across the world; which is why we have introduced an Adult-Ophthalmologist-Specific-Registration at our upcoming WCPOS IV. Should you opt for this category, you will be entitled to attend the entire day’s program on Saturday, 2nd December, 2017. The Registration fees are INR 4,120/-  and are inclusive of an 18% Indian Tax (GST). Your registration also includes lunch & tea / coffee on Saturday, 2nd December, 2017 in addition to the WSPOS Dinner on Saturday night. Please note: Should you wish to attend any / all sessions taking place on 1st & / 3rd December, you will have to register for all 3 days at a registration fee of INR 11,600 (i.e. € 590).


We also have a ‘SUNDAY, 3rd DECEMBER, 2017, ONLY REGISTRATION’ specially for Optometrists & Orthoptists. We have 2 Orthoptics Workshops on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017 & would like to invite Indian Orthoptists & / Optometrists to interact with & learn from the ‘Notables’ - Orthoptists & / Optometrists of repute (both Indian & International). We have a few expressly crafted Paediatric Neuro-ophthalmology related sessions in addition to the Orthoptics workshops on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017. Should you register under this category, you will be entitled to participate at the Orthoptics Workshops in addition to all the programs taking place on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017. The Sunday ONLY Registration fees are INR 1,500/-  and are inclusive of an 18% Indian Tax (GST). Your registration also includes lunch & tea / coffee on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017. Please note: Should you wish to attend any / all sessions taking place on 1st and 2nd December, you will have to register for all 3 days at a registration fee of INR 11,600 (i.e. € 590).


Furthermore, we have 2 Yoga with the Gurus sessions. Instead of “Breakfast with the Experts” seen in a conventional European / Western style meeting, we would like to invite our Registered Delegates to Come Experience a Yoga-for-Beginners session with a Yoga Guru while simultaneously Learning about Paediatric Ophthalmology with the Experts. While we have Dr. RICHARD BOWMAN (Optic Nerve Glioma) Dr. NOA ELA-DALMAN (Infantile Estropia) & Dr. JAY SELF (Nystagmus) as our 3 Paediatric Ophthalmology Experts on Saturday, 2nd December 2017; on Sunday 3rd December 2017, we have Dr. BIBIANA REISER (Cornea) Dr. SUSHMITA KAUSHIK (Glaucoma) & Dr. CHRISTIN SYLVESTER (Naso Lacrimal Duct Obstruction) as our 3 Paediatric Ophthalmology Experts, in addition to Mrs. RATNA RAO, an Experienced Yoga Guru.  We have only 60 places available per session i.e. ONLY 20 PLACES PER SPECIALTY PER DAY. These sessions are on a First-Come-First-Served basis. The fees are INR 1,000 (€ 20) per session. Book your slot at the earliest. Each Participant will be provided a Yoga Mat & Bottled water. The 1 Hour Yoga session will be followed by a half hour discussion with our 3 Paediatric Ophthalmology Experts over Tea / Coffee & Biscuits. The Fee entitles you to participate at 1 session ONLY i.e. EITHER of the 3 sessions on EITHER SATURDAY OR SUNDAY.


We would also like to invite all of you to our WCPOS IV Welcome Reception on Friday, 1st December, 2017 where we have a Sitar Recital by Akhila Acharya at 6:00 pm, followed by Drinks. We also have a WSPOS Beer & Biryani Dinner on Saturday, 2nd December, 2017 at 7:00 pm.

The L. V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad, India is celebrating its 20th Anniversary of Children's Eye Care & have a Pre WCPOS IV meeting on Thursday, 30th November, 2017.
