It is with profound sadness that the World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS) marks the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Daisy Godts.
Daisy was a highly respected orthoptist, educator and passionate advocate for eye health. Her warmth, generosity and enthusiasm touched colleagues around the world, while her commitment to education and sharing knowledge made an important contribution to our international community.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Daisy will remember not only her professional expertise, but also her beautiful spirit, kindness and the joy she brought to those around her.
On behalf of the WSPOS Executive and our global community, we extend our deepest condolences to Daisy’s family, friends and colleagues. She will be deeply missed and very fondly remembered.

IN MEMORIAM – Daisy Godts
We will remember Daisy as an exceptionally warm and sociable woman, with a generous heart and an extraordinary passion for her profession. She was not only a dedicated orthoptist, but also someone who brought people together and generously shared her enthusiasm for the profession of orthoptics with others.
In the world of ophthalmology, Daisy knew many people, but even more people knew Daisy. She was one of the most widely known and respected orthoptists, both nationally and internationally. Her expertise and experience were highly valued, and she was frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences. With great passion, she delivered clear, practical and inspiring presentations, always eager to share her knowledge with others.
Since the foundation of the professional association, Daisy held several positions on its board. She was also actively involved in numerous national and international organisations.
Throughout her professional career, she was deeply committed to sharing knowledge and contributing to the further development of orthoptics. Wherever orthoptics was discussed, taught or advanced, Daisy was never far away.
Beyond her professional activities, Daisy was also deeply committed to humanitarian work. Through numerous humanitarian and educational missions in the Dominican Republic, India, Congo, Nigeria and Rwanda, she dedicated her time and expertise to improving eye care and supporting local professionals.
She was always willing to support colleagues and young professionals and to help them develop and grow.
Her exceptional contribution to, and many years of dedication to, orthoptics were recognised in 2025 with the Stephenson Honorary Fellow Award. This honour reflects the profound impact Daisy had on the profession and on the many people with whom she worked throughout her career.
Daisy left a warm and lasting impression wherever she went. Her enthusiasm, expertise and dedication will be deeply missed by many. She leaves behind not only an impressive professional legacy, but also countless friendships, inspired colleagues and many cherished memories.
Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones. We wish them strength, comfort and a sense of togetherness during this difficult time.
