I am originally from Egypt but grew up in and travelled to several parts of the world with my father including the United States of America, Israel, Zambia, and Egypt. My Primary education was mostly evenly distributed between Israel, USA, and Egypt. My IGCSE was completed in the International School of Lusaka, Zambia.
I Studied Medicine and graduated from the School of Medicine, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt. This is the largest and the most prestigious University in Egypt. I graduated in the top 5% of my class in 2010. I then joined the Research Institute of Ophthalmology in Cairo, Egypt, where I completed my ophthalmology residency training in 2014. My interest in paediatric Ophthalmology started during my residency and joined the fellowship program at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology after spending a period of time as a Senior Registrar at the same Institute. I eventually left Egypt in 2018 after completing my USMLE examination and moved with my wife and children to the United States.
In 2018, I started my journey in the United States as a Paediatric Ophthalmology fellow, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. This was then followed by another fellowship year spent in the Paediatric ophthalmology department at the UPMC Children’s hospital of Pittsburgh lead by Dr. Kanwal Nischal “Dr. Ken Nischal”. During my year there I also completed my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS – Glasgow).
In August of 2020, I was very fortunate to join the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Paediatric Ophthalmology division as a faculty member. I am currently an Assistant professor and subspecialized in Paediatric Glaucoma in addition to general paediatric ophthalmology.
