Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Tuesday 6th August, 2024

The World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus (WSPOS), a global charity dedicated to advancing the care of children’s eye health, congratulates Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik on his remarkable achievements earning Bronze medals in gymnastics despite living with strabismus and coloboma.

Nedoroscik’s determination and success serve as a testament to the human spirit, and WSPOS is proud to support individuals with strabismus and other eye conditions. We encourage everyone to prioritise eye health and seek professional advice from paediatric ophthalmologists if they suspect any vision problems.

Strabismus, commonly known as misaligned eyes, crossed eyes or sometimes lazy eye, is a condition where the eyes point in different directions, possibly causing double vision and potentially leading to permanent vision loss if left untreated. WSPOS emphasises the importance of early identification and treatment by paediatric ophthalmologists, the experts in treating these complex issues.

About WSPOS: Established in 2009, WSPOS is the leading international charitable organisation in the field, and ensures that paediatric ophthalmologists worldwide share information and receive the latest education and training to provide the best possible care for children with strabismus and other eye conditions. Most recently we held the 5th World Congress in Kuala Lumpur for nearly 1,500 delegates from over 90 countries. Our mission is to eliminate unnecessary suffering and promote optimal eye health for all children and adults with strabismus.
